| Prunus persica has been proposed as a genomic model for deciduous trees and the Rosaceae family. Optimized protocols for RNA isolation are necessary to further advance studies in this model species such that functional genomics analyses may be performed. Here we present an optimized protocol to rapidly and efficiently purify high quality total RNA from peach fruits (Prunus persica). Isolating high-quality RNA from fruit tissue is often difficult due to large quantities of polysaccharides and polyphenolic compounds that accumulate in this tissue and co-purify with the RNA. | Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a series of significant physiology roles in higher plants including but not limited to promote bud and seed dormancy, accelerate foliage fall, induce stomatal closure, inhibit growth and enhance resistance. Recently, it has been revealed that ABA also has an important regulator role in the growth, development and ripening of fruit. In higher plants ABA is produced from an indirect pathway from the cleavage products of carotenoids. | We use econometric methods to investigate consumer demand for bananas and for other fruit in Germany. Monthly household survey data for the period 1986-1998 are analysed. Demand for bananas is significantly responsive to own price, suggesting that policy-induced price increases generate the usual dead-weight losses. Demand is also responsive to income changes, indicating that there is scope for further market expansion as incomes grow. There is evidence that other categories of fruit are both gross and net substitutes for bananas. |

| Az Észak-alföldi Régióban – köszönhetően Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg megyének – összesen 60 vállalkozás, szövetkezet, betéti társaság, kft. és rt. foglalkozik zöldség-gyümölcs feldolgozással, konzerv- és fagyasztott termékek gyártásától a pálinka- és lekvárkészítésig. Megállapítható, hogy minél nagyobb az éves árbevétel, annál nagyobb szerepet kap a beszerzési funkció, az ezzel kapcsolatos ráfordítások és a szervezettség. Önálló beszerzési szervezet csupán 13 vállalkozásnál található a hatvan feldolgozóból. Ezek 500 millió Ft feletti árbevétellel rendelkező vállalkozások. | Com o objetivo de obter informacoes preliminares sobre o comportamento produtivo do rambuta e avaliar as caracteristicas fisicas do fruto cultivado em solo de Manaus, classe Latossolo amarelo, e clima do tipo Ami, foram avaliadas 20 plantas originadas de sementes de variedades de casca vermelha. As arvores entraram em floracao no terceiro ano apos o plantio, constatando-se a ocorrencia de sete plantas hermafroditas e 13 masculinas. As hermafroditas, no quarto ano de producao, registraram o numero maximo de 3590 e o minimo de 835 frutos por planta. | Ehretia (Ehretiaceae, Boraginales) has been divided into two major clades, characterised by fruits with four endocarpids (Ehretia I, including species of Ehretia formerly belonging to Rotula) and by fruits with two endocarpids (Ehretia II, plus E. microphylla (= Carmona retusa) with an undivided endocarp), respectively.
